Ware to Hertford

Friday 4th August

We had a lazy morning and I had a mooch around Ware (lots of great charity shops!) and then we had cooked breakfast. We set off late morning. First we went past the gazebos.

We soon arrived at the lock, Ware lock. We went through without any problems and the trip barge was waiting to come down so we were able to leave the gates open for them. Normally you have to leave the gates and paddles closed as you leave the lock.

The countryside opened up and the river became much wider.

We passed the New Gauge Intake house on the way into Hertford. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_River_(England)

 More cygnets!

We came across this development which looked like it used to be an old lime kiln site possibly.

Our second and last lock of the day was Hertford Lock.

It looked like it might be a struggle to find a mooring space.

Some of the bridges were so low that John had to crouch down to navigate under them.

Luckily we managed to get in right next to the Old Barge pub in the middle of town.
