Broxbourne to Waltham Abbey

Thursday 10th August

Hurray the sun is shining today! Waterproofs back in the cupboard, suncream on! 😎
My turn to steer, John walked with Dex to set the locks.

Perhaps we should have this boat!!
There were some nice houses as we passed through Broxbourne.

At Aqueduct lock there is a sign saying please don't pet the dog. Couldn't see why!!

Dex is always keeping an eye on me when I'm steering. He likes to try and keep pace with me and the boat. With John's walking sticks he can easily keep up with the boat even when it's going at 4mph.

Lots of lilypads on this stretch of the Lee.

We only had 3 locks to do today as it was quite a short trip to Waltham Abbey.

Check out the stained glass window!

We had some young helpers at the next lock. It's lovely when the kids wave as you pass by. I've been trying to teach Dex to wave, he's getting there!

This boat had nearly sunk as we approached Waltham Abbey.

We found a mooring near the town lock. We reached Waltham about lunchtime so had the afternoon free.
We had a drink in the lovely old Welsh Harp pub dating from the 15th Century, before going to Tony's pie and mash shop for a late lunch. David Beckham goes there with his family when he can. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/05/david-beckham-pops-home-and-heads-to-pie-and-mash-shop-with-son/ He wasn't there today!

I took the opportunity to have my hair done whilst John went to Tesco!
Later I took Dex on a lovely circular walk through the Lee valley park up to the lock and back along the towpath.

Dex was eyeing up the Coots as usual!
