Waltham Abbey to Broxbourne

Wednesday 2nd August

We spent the morning doing some shopping and John tested our batteries and they are unfortunately no longer keeping a charge for any length of time so we will have to get them replaced. More expense! We now know why they call boats moneypits..
I made us sausage and egg pittas before we set off about 11.30am.

We managed to share a lock with another boat. He was on his own so think he was glad to have some help.

We saw this Ice Cream boat on the way! Sadly I was steering so couldn't stop and buy one!

We were soon at the second lock which was Aqueduct Lock. Only 2 today!

The river started to flow through some lovely countryside after this and we saw some beautiful flowers on the riverbank.

We hoped to moor outside the Crown pub just outside Broxbourne. There were no mooring spaces left so we carried on until we reached the next lock and managed to moor a short distance before the lock.
It was really raining hard by then so we were glad to get moored. John was soaked so we put the heating on so he could dry out. We went for a walk later with Dex to the pub and had a drink before dinner.
We saw this memorial to a 6 year old boy who tragically went missing from the pub garden back in 1999 and police found his body in the river. So sad.
On the way back to the boat we saw this beautiful old barge. It came complete with front door entrance and catflap!
