Waltham Abbey

Tuesday 1st August

As we had arrived at Waltham Abbey early afternoon we had time to go and explore. First of all we went to see the Abbey itself. This is actually Waltham Abbey Church, the Abbey itself was destroyed during Henry V111's reign. It really was beautiful and dates from 1090. Really was worth a visit.

The Abbey grounds and gardens were worth a visit too. We saw the place where King Harold was supposed to be buried.

After this we went into the town and had a look around. It has some lovely old buildings and some nice cafes and shops.

We stopped for afternoon tea at this cafe. The ladies were really funny and welcoming. John had home made carrot cake and I had home made lemon polenta. Both delicious!

Waltham Abbey looks absolutely stunning a place we'll have to visit one day.
