Enfield to Waltham Abbey

Tuesday 1st August. We decided to set off about 9.30am however as we were starting to leave a couple in a boat further up came down the towpath to see us and explained that the Environment agency had closed the river for a couple of hours as they were counting fish! Yes I know that sounds pretty impossible! John went to see them and they had some fancy biomass equipment which scanned the river and could work out the volume of fish in the area. They also examined a section of the river so they could see what species of fish were in there.

So as we had a couple of hours to spare, I walked Dex and then we had a cooked breakfast. Not all was lost! 😉 We set off about 12..
I had to chuckle at this boat above with all the rubbish and stuff piled high outside and inside. It was called Clean sweep! Dex and I were on lock duty today and John was steering.
Earlier on our walk we met the owners of this boat and their 2 dogs, a Staffy cross and a French bulldog cross, both of whom played with Dex. Their boat is electric and runs entirely on solar energy.

At the next lock (Rammey Marsh lock) there was a narrowboaters cafe complete with showers and Launderette!
We paired up with another family going through the lock which was great.

We passed by the Rammey Marsh boat club
Soon we were passing under the M25
This barge full of rubbish is all that remains of the Canal and River trust service area before you get to Waltham Abbey. According to their website there was a pumpout facility, water and rubbish disposal. But it looks like the whole area is being redeveloped. So no pump out or water for us! Good job we weren't desperate.
We went through Waltham Town Lock with the same family. So much easier with 2 boats!

We soon found a mooring spot at Waltham Abbey. This family of Coots were there to welcome us (much to Dex's annoyance!)
