Exploring Apsley

We found a lovely dog walk at Long Deans nature reserve. There were some long horned cattle there but we managed to avoid them and Dex had fun running in the field.

On our way back from the dog walk we found these lovely old 16th century cottages at Nash Mills. Nash Mill used to be a corn mill but then got converted to a papermill at the end of the eighteenth century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nash_Mill

Along the canal there is the Frogmore Paper mill which is now owned by a charity called the paper trail. http://www.thepapertrail.org.uk/ It is still a working mill and visits can be arranged. It is the oldest mechanical working paper mill in the world. http://frogmoremill.com/visit/
You can find further evidence of the Paper mill history in the surrounding area as this clock face demonstrates.

On the way to Sainsbury's I came across this lovely old church called St Mary's. It also has a connection to the papermill as it's design was the creation of one of the senior partners in the mill, Charles Longman. http://beneficeoflangelei.org.uk/st-marys-apsley-end/
