Willey moor lock to Swanley locks

Wednesday 8th August

We were moored just before the lock so that was the first task of the day.
We had quite a few spectators at the pub so I was relieved that I managed to get into the lock without bumping the side.
 Off into the countryside again.
The next lock was Quoisley lock.

A CRT man was using a scraper to get rid of all the plants growing on the lock gates and sides.

At Marbury lock a boat was coming up so we waited to go in.

John had some help from another boater as yet another boat was waiting to come through.

After this lock John walked Dex back to get the car and move it further along. We had arranged to meet at Wrenbury Frith lift bridge.

It was another beautiful day and time to relax and enjoy the views.

I moored up just before the bridge. I was there ages before John and when we looked at the timings we realised we hadn't factured in the current which was helping me along and so making me go faster than usual.

The next lift bridge was a road bridge where you had to stop the traffic. I love doing these, especially as they are electric so you just need to press a button.

Past Wrenbury Mill and the boatyard.

Another lift bridge but this one was already open.

We arrived at Baddiley locks, a set of 3.
I couldn't work out why this boat that had just come up the lock wasn't moving off.
Then we realised that it was pulling another old boat along, one of the unpowered boats that would have traditionally been horse drawn.
They waited for that boat to come up.
Then they had to tether it back to the boat in front. They were then on their way again.
Our turn to go into the lock.

 Lock number 2

At the next lock Dex made a new friend.

This was the lock with the sink hole!

Dex always keeps a careful eye on the boat and what's happening. He is the skipper after all! 😁

We ended up going through both Swanley locks and found a good mooring spot just past the second lock.
