Just before we left our mooring we saw the wonderful sight of a steam train crossing the railway bridge. Sadly I wasn't quick enough to get it on camera!
We left about 10.30am and once again were struck by the diverse design of the incredible houses, each one trying to outshine it's neighbour and all jostling for their own section of the Thames. So much money it blows your mind.
Soon we arrived at Bray Lock and were amazed to see an electronic display board! We had to wait for a huge boat to come out of the lock. She was filled with party people all dressed to the nines and wearing white feathers in their hats.
After we left the lock we saw more boats with White Swan flags. John realised that it was the Swan Uppers who do the annual swan census. http://www.royalswan.co.uk/
After Bray Lock we headed towards Eaton and the Windsor and passed the Grand looking Oakley Court Hotel.
Today the hotel hosts the annual swan upping event but it has been used in several horror films in the past: https://www.oakleycourt.co.uk/about-us/back-in-time/
At Boveney we saw a beautiful old church which is the church of St Mary Magdalene and dates from 1266. http://stjohnstjamesed.org.uk/page16.html
Soon we reached Bovney Lock and more lovely flower displays.
Then on to Windsor. It was wonderful to see Windsor Castle; it's majestic presence dominating the landscape.
It was really busy in Windsor and no chance to moor so we will have to leave the Castle visit for another day.
We went under Queen Victoria Bridge and could see lovely views of the castle through the parkland.
Then we saw Queen Victoria's boathouse.
Soon after we went under Prince Albert's bridge.
On through old Windsor lock.
More unusual and varied houses on our way to Egham
Then we spotted the ruins of Ankerwycke Priory built around 1160. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankerwycke_Priory
After this we saw this lovely replica of a Victorian paddle steamer the Lucy Fisher.
Finally we found a mooring spot close to Egham and not far from the Magna Carter Monument at Runnymede. I will cover our visit to the monument in another blog page.
We decided to have Italian for dinner as there was an Italian restaurant just 5 mins walk away. The food was really delicious. http://www.italianconceptrestaurant.com/
