John went shopping in the morning and I updated the blog and tidied up. I set off in the boat about 1pm. We were only going about 5 miles today and no locks. John moved the car to Gnosall and started walking back with Dex.
There was a whole group of moorhens pecking away on the towpath.
It was much cooler today so no doubt this chap sanding his boat roof was very glad of that as you couldn't even touch the metal in the heat of recent days.
I loved the name of this boat, Nauti Nauti 😀
There were some great moorings along this stretch of canal.
This one complete with model narrow boat!
You could hardly see this boat for the floral displays.
Ahh ducklings!
I passed this boat called Oscar which was in the Viking hire boat livery just like the one we hired on honeymoon. When I checked with John he thought it was the exact one and sure enough it was Oscar that we had hired 5 years ago! Amazing that we get to see it on this trip!
John on Oscar 5 years ago!
The honeymooners! 💕 Happy memories...
I spotted this squirrel on the bank, Dex would have gone nuts!
More lovely houses and beautiful moorings.
This looked like an old wharf building, sadly now derelict.
More interesting moorings to look at.
As you can see we had only come 11 miles from the junction at Autherley.
I loved this beautiful turnover bridge where the towpath swaps sides and back in the day, horses would have been taken across the top. I picked up John and Dex near this bridge and John took over the steering.
We saw this whole family of swans with seven cygnets.
The male swan was quite aggressive, he had tried having a go at Dex earlier when he was walking along the towpath and now he was having a go at the boat!
It was so tranquil sitting in the front of the boat away from the engine noise.
We arrived at Cowley tunnel which was only 81 yards long. It was quite beautiful really as tunnels go!
Gnosall (pronounced knows all) is just after the tunnel. We found a good mooring spot in the shade.
We had been here on honeymoon 5 years ago. I went exploring with Dex and soon remembered the pubs we had visited 😀This is the Boat Inn today.
This is the Boat back in 2013.
The Navigation Inn today
The Navigation back in 2013. Both pubs have had a bit of a facelift and good to see both are still trading!
This water point has to be one of the most attractive on the canal!
This bear has clearly been lost. He's very grubby with a missing leg but no doubt somebody loves him. Let's hope they are reunited!
Later there was a wonderful sunset to enjoy. We will be here a few days as when John was moving the car the engine warning light came on indicating an electrical fault. Luckily there is a garage in Gnosall so we are now waiting for the prognosis with bated breath! I need the car this Saturday as I am off to a hen do in Salisbury so keeping everything crossed it can be fixed quickly!
