Stanley to Marbury

Friday 27th July

Another hot day. We set off together to go through the first 3 locks at Baddiley.
There was a boat coming down so that was great as we could go straight in once they came out.

The ducks were having a brilliant time surfing in the river.

After the locks, John and Dex went back to get the car. We were meeting up later. I set off on my own.

There was a lovely old carriage on this mooring, unbelievable what you find on the canal!

Love all these Lilypads along the way.

I was so glad to get in the shade of the trees.

We had seen this boat ages ago on another canal.
I picked John and Dex up later and we had to go through a lift bridge before we could go any further.

Soon after the bridge we arrived at the boatyard. Yesterday the generator on the boat stopped working and we thought it might be the alternator. So we wanted to get an engineer to check it out. We have 3 alternators on the boat, one for the starter motor, one for the engine and the third for the onboard generator. Luckily we can manage without the generator, just need it really for the washing machine!
The engineer came and had a look and he thought we would need a new alternator. But he suggested we find one online. Not much help really as we didn't know what sort to get! We decided to move on.
Just past the boatyard there was a hire boat leaving. They had an instructor on board. One of the hire boat crew had already started lifting the bridge. It was the sort where you have to close the road.

John followed close behind.

The hire boat pulled over to moor and drop off the instructor. Well they had gone all of 100 yards after all!! We took the opportunity to overtake!
This field was full of old tractors, we counted eight!

Another lift bridge but this one was already lifted!
Someone was living on this boat.
Lots of seemingly abandoned chicken coops!
The chickens had escaped!
We went past Thomason's winding hole. The first winding hole we have seen named! Not sure why, couldn't find any reference on google!

At the next lock (our last of the day) there was a really strong flow of water coming into the canal from the river. I had to battle my way into the lock.

Dex made friends with a very cute wire haired dachshund.

We found a good spot to moor, just past the lock. We were on the outskirts of Marbury. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbury,_Cheshire
Later I walked with Dex back along the canal to fetch the car. I loved this sight along the way!
