Atherstone to Alvecote

Monday 18th June

It was another lovely sunny day. We set off together as we had 11 locks to complete today.

Back garden complete with pet swan 😀
Some of the gardens were beautifully kept.
Selling windmills and dovecotes here!

We arrived at the first lock. Volunteers were there to help and one boat was coming up so we waited.

I didn't need to get off so we went in the lock together.

On to the next lock which was also set ready for us.

At the next lock a boat was just coming out so we only had to wait a short time before we could go in.
No volunteers now so I worked the paddles and gates.

There was a gorgeous display of flowers at this lock.

At the next lock we waited for another boat to come up. It was quite unusual with a sliding cabin roof.

More floral displays for me to photograph.
As John came out of the lock this boat gave a signal that he was moving over to the right so John could pass him.
A canalside pub but no time to stop!

We couldn't believe our luck as at almost every lock another boat was coming up so the lock was set ready for us after they came out. I could get used to this!

We went past the marina at Baddersley Wharf

One for you Maria Cocking! 😀
This beautiful looking footbridge sadly had no floor!
Dex met up with a very excited Cockerpoo.

This old barge had definately seen better days!

The foxgloves were amazing.

I loved the flower displays on this boat but as we got nearer we could see it was in fact a floating florist!
We passed some amazing properties.

Not sure why there was a giant painted cartwheel in this field!

Finally we had arrived at Alvecote Marina, our stop for the next few days and the place where we bought Prairie 4 years ago.

John turned Prairie round in the marina entrance. This was a major drama when he did it 4 years ago as a novice but now he takes every manoever in his stride!

We had hoped to get a pump out but when we got to the service point we realised they are closed on Mondays! It would have to wait until we got back.

We found a good spot to stay for a few days whilst we went home to Wales
