We've been so lucky with the weather so far. I was able to get a full load of washing dry on the rotary line yesterday afternoon as it was so hot. Today's first task was to fill up with water so John moved the boat over to the service point. He then left with Dex to take the car to Newton Harcourt and walk back along the canal. This left me filling up with water and whilst I was waiting I sat in the sunshine having coffee and a fried egg sandwich, very civilised! I can't believe the lifestyle I have, I am very lucky. After about an hour or so, John returned and we set off.
In the water I spotted a very rare canal lilly or to give it it's latin name bananus pelis! 😄
Mr Brookes was steering today with me on lock duty.
The blossom was spectacular all along this stretch of canal.
Just before Bumblebee lock I spotted a fender floating in the water. As we had somehow managed to lose 2 of these over the winter we wanted to try and fish it out so John had a go with the boat hook.
Very pleased with our new aquisition!
Another boat joined us in the lock. We had passed their mooring earlier, they had a very nice house backing onto the canal.John took the opportunity to clean out the weed hatch whilst waiting for the lock to fill.
We were soon on our way again and our new friends were to lockshare with us all the way to Newton Harcourt which was brilliant.
At Turnover lock we had to wait for a widebeam to come down before we could enter.
The elderly couple aboard had purchased her 2 years ago at Crick boat show. It looked to be around £150,000 worth of boat, not one you would want to get damaged!
Once they had gone we could enter the lock.
I walked on to the next lock as it was close by and opened the gates so they could carry straight on.
Off again enjoying the views and the sunshine.
Dex took the oppotunity for a quick rest in the shade.
Soon we were at Newton Harcourt where the views are lovely, looking over fields of blossom and sheep. All we could hear was the bleating of the lambs.
It was a great spot to moor for the evening. We got out the picnic table and chairs and had a lovely meal al fresco on the towpath.
