Foxton Locks

Saturday 26th May

We left Debdale wharf on Friday and moored up at the bottom of Foxton locks. It was great to be back here.

That evening we went back to Bridge 61 which is a great canalside pub and where the locals hang out. We caught up with the same chap who served us when we were here in November and the same guy Paul was also there. We had a great meal, John had a giant yorkshire filled with sausages and mushy peas and I had beef bourguignon with mash. Simple food but delicious and so cheap, £5 a head! We also tried out violet gin for the first time. Bit like the parma violet sweets but better!

In the morning we set off to go up the flight. Being a bank holiday weekend and gorgeous weather there were plenty of gongoozlers to watch us! We had to wait for our turn to go up the flight.

A really unusual bike powered craft had come down the flight!

It was my turn to steer going up the flight. John was on duty with the lock keepers (volunteers)

Dex was centre of attention for adults kids and other dogs!
All eyes were on me too so I had to make sure I didn't lose any more fenders!

Finally we reached the top and our mooring spot for the next couple of days.
We parked the car nearby so it was easy to get to Market Harborough which is a lovely town and great for shopping.
Foxton is also a good place for dog walks

We had incredible storms on the Saturday night, the thunder and lightning were right overhead. It was like strobe lighting coming in through the roof hatches. We kept dry though and luckily had remembered to close the side hatch which leaks through the glass window if the shutters are left open!
