Grove Lock to Leighton Buzzard

Friday 1st September

We set off early and only had a short journey to complete to the centre of Leighton Buzzard.

We passed this strange looking boatyard at Linslade where the boats were all on land and piled up the bank. Some seemed to have residents despite the fact they weren't afloat.

We saw evidence of several old wharves where hoppers on railway tracks were set alongside the canal and would unload sand from the quarry onto the waiting narrowboats.

Further on we passed this great pedestrian bridge and then saw the Peace Meadow on the right.
The Peace Meadow, commemorates the Treaty of Yttangaford, where King Edward the Elder made temporary peace with his Danish and Viking enemies.
After this a short but pleasant run into Leighton Buzzard where we managed to get a mooring spot right outside Tesco.

We moored next to this 5 star hotel boat called The Billet. You can experience a week aboard this luxury boat, fully inclusive of all meals and drinks for around £1200 per person. Alternatively you can negotiate a much cheaper deal with the skipper of Prairie!! 😄
